Doha Montessori & British School (DMBS) opened in October 1997 and has grown steadily over recent years to offer a quality education to students from Pre-School to Yr 11. Since 2008 the school has occupied new, purpose built premises that include state-of-the-art facilities for a variety of specialist subjects in addition to well designed classrooms and sports facilities. The school has been designed to accommodate up to 1100 students and, by 2011, we will be providing education from Pre-School to Yr 13.
DMBS offers a British style education based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales with a modified Montessori programme for Early Years. The medium of instruction is English and cultural diversity is celebrated. Currently the student body comprises 65 different nationalities.
Applications to join our school are welcomed from all students, regardless of race or ethnicity. However, in order to ensure that all our students can access our full curriculum, we do require that applicants for Yr. 5 and up pass an entrance examination in Mathematics and English. Younger children are required to attend an informal interview.
Key Stage 4 students are prepared for the I/GCSE examinations with the compulsory subjects being Mathematics, English, Combined Science and a Modern Foreign Language with a choice of three additional subjects. For our Yr. 12/13 students we are working on gaining our accreditation to offer the well respected IB Diploma programme which we firmly believe will be a great asset for our students seeking further education experiences all over the world.
Doha Montessori and British School is committed to:
• providing an excellent broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated education which complements the National Curriculum of England and Wales. • fostering a spirit of international awareness and understanding within the whole school, encouraging mutual respect and positively influencing the lives of our students. • developing in our students the qualities and skills necessary to become confident, independent people. • promoting good behaviour, respect and tolerance for others. • creating a dynamic learning community which encourages enquiry and enjoyment, challenges curiosity and promotes the realisation of each student’s potential.
At DMBS every student matters and every student is encouraged to develop his or her academic, social, physical and interpersonal skills in a safe and enjoyable environment.
