GEMS Royal Dubai School opened in September 2005 offering the National Curriculum for England.
The school mainly caters to families based in Mirdif and it’s surrounding suburbs, although many students come from much further afield. All staff are UK trained and/or experienced. The school prides itself on its inclusive admissions policy and has developed a reputation for successfully integrating those with English Language support needs in the UK style school.
The school has specialist facilities for PE, Swimming, Drama, Science, ICT, Music, Art and Library. Specialist teaching is provided for Art, Library, Music, PE, Arabic, French and Spanish.
We track student progress very carefully to ensure each child is challenged to achieve the very best attainment of which they are capable. We use external baseline assessments to support teachers in knowing exactly what targets a child should be set.
The school has an active Extra Curricular programme including Enrichment activities, sporting activities and activities such as Riding, Scuba Diving and Formula 1 that use the local facilities. We are involved with a school in India that we fundraise for through the year.
Technology is a particular focus for the school. Teachers, Parents and Students use blog sites and twitter to communicate, assess work and share ideas. Two classes teach children primarily using individual laptops and we hope this pilot will be extended in subsequent years. We try to ensure that we adopt sustainable practices throughout the school and environmental awareness is a core component of daily school life. Each class has an eco-warrior who ensures that there is no wasteful use of the planet’s resources in his or her classroom and surrounding environ.
We aim to provide the best for all our students. Although our website gives a flavor of life at RDS, please arrange a visit by contacting Shelley Cain; shelley@royaldubaischool.com
