The British School, Tehran was founded in 2000 by representatives of the UK and Dutch Embassies with support from several multinational companies to provide education primarily, but not exclusively, for the children of British and Dutch nationals based in Tehran.
The school is located on part of the British Embassy compound located in the northern suburbs of Tehran. At present the school campus and a number of facilities are shared with the German School.
The curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Science, other subjects are taught through the International Primary Curriculum. In addition Dutch children are required to take classes in Dutch based on N.O.B. programmes. Other children study Farsi or French depending upon their age.
Supported by a very active parent body the school is also able to offer a very full programme of after school activities.
In line with Board Policy classes at the British School, Tehran are restricted to 15 pupils. All children, other than Dutch Nationals, are required to pass a basic competency test in English before being accepted into school.
Due to the school’s status within Iran the school can only accept the children of parents with work permits issued by the Iranian authorities.
