The school’s mission indicates that BISAK is an educational community whose purpose and mission is to educate young people intellectually, morally and physically, and without discrimination. The ethos at BISAK seeks to encourage high academic standards through the provision of the National Curriculum of England, and provide firm foundations to produce responsible citizens and accomplished human beings who demonstrate such virtues as integrity, respect, responsibility, tolerance, fairness, caring, openness, sharing and friendship. Our school was set up in 1977 to provide British-style education to international students living in and around Al Khobar. The purpose-built facility, which includes a sports hall, performing hall, art, pottery, music and drama rooms, as well as science, ICT and design and technology laboratories, is situated in a quiet, residential area of Al Khobar. Recognised by the British Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Saudi Ministry of Education, the school provides a wide range of specialist subject teachers throughout the pre-school-year 9 range. Students are supported and encouraged by qualified teachers, learning assistants, nurses, librarians and administrators. With some 140 computers around the school, ICT permeates all areas of learning in some form or another and our students are encouraged to display their expressive and artistic talents. The school welcomes children of all nationalities. Each potential student joins an age-appropriate class for part of a day as part of the entrance assessment procedure, to ensure adequate standards in the English language and proper class placement. The school’s student-centred approach helps ensure that each young person is properly supported in all that s/he does in and out of the classroom. A wide range of extracurricular activities is offered after school each day. These rotate termly. Additionally, the school is, within local limits, a centre for community cultural activities. The school year follows the typical British overseas pattern, starting in early September and finishing at the end of June each year. Like many schools here, we are usually waitlisted at the infant end, so that early application is recommended.
