The school is a non-profit making organization founded in 1979 and incorporated in March 1981 into the Saudi Arabian International School under arrangements made by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education. It is situated in Al Hamra in new premises opened in 1995. The majority of pupils are British, but there are children of about 45 nationalities. All those for whom English is not their mother tongue must reach a level of competence in the language, sufficient to enable them to benefit from lessons, in all subjects, before they can be admitted to the school. The school operates on the British three-term system, with a long summer break from the beginning of July until the beginning of September. The school will administer special entrance examinations for individual schools where necessary. The National Curriculum for England and Wales is followed with the addition of Arabic Studies. The school building offers accommodation of the highest standard. Classrooms are well resourced, there is an excellent library and the sports complex includes a very large indoor swimming pool. Staff are recruited from the UK and from qualified expatriates based in Riyadh. Class size is limited to 23 pupils. Teaching standards are high and the school enjoys cordial relationships with parents and the wider community. The school is subject to regular review from qualified inspectors recognized by the Office for Standards in Education (UK). The school’s patron is Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
