Jumeirah College is a selective, co-educational international school for students aged 11 – 18 years. It is currently in its sixth year of operation and has students up to year 13. The College works with Jumeirah Primary School as a full through school on two adjacent sites, providing quality education for nearly 2000 students. Students from Nursery to Year 7 will be housed on the JPS site while Years 7 to 13 will be on the current JC site. The College is located in Jumeirah, a prestigious residential area in Dubai, and is housed in a modern, purpose-built, fully air-conditioned campus with excellent facilities; the full range includes well-equipped spacious classrooms and specialist teaching rooms, including a dedicated Drama Studio; Music suite with practice rooms; Design and Technology suite; and ICT suites; Library Resource area which has computing, video, audio and printing facilities; a multi-purpose Sports hall, tennis courts, playing fields and swimming pool. The College is registered with the DfES (DfES number 7036210) as an overseas school and as an examination centre for all of the main UK examination boards. The College follows the National Curriculum for England. We not only follow the programmes of study, but also adopt the assessment framework and our Year 9 students take part in the National Tests (SATs) each year. We are in the fortunate position of being able to select best practice from the raft of initiatives in England and then adapt them to our own particular circumstances. The student body is multi-cultural with members from more than 40 countries represented. The majority, however, are British passport holders and all lessons are taught in English. Class sizes are set at a maximum of 24. The ability profile of the students is significantly above average for England, although we have a small number of students who receive learning support, mainly for dyslexia. Students are prepared for the Key Stage SATs, GCSE examinations, A levels and ultimately for universities of their choice. Whilst maintaining a sharp academic focus at the college we also endeavour to develop well-rounded students who are prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. A full and rich extra-curricular programme, which includes the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, ensures that a wide range of activities is offered to all our students. Jumeirah College is a GEMS managed school.
