The English College is an independant, coeducational British curriculum school which opened in September 1992. Building on its success, the College opened a primary school section in September 2004 and now offers the full range from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 13.
The College is staffed by well qualified British teachers with UK experience. Great emphasis is placed upon offering an holistic education and extra curricular activities play an important part in the Colleges programme. A wide range of sport, music, drama and other activities are offered after normal school hours.
The College enjoys easy access from the Dubai/Abu Dhabi highway and is situated between interchanges 2 and 3 on the Sheikh Zayed Road.
The buildings are purpose built, fully air-conditioned and include specialitst areas for ICT, Science, Art & Design, Drama and Music. The College also has an all-weather multi-purpose playing court, gym, full size swimming pool, a learners' swimming pool, grass sports field and two multi-purpose halls.
The school week begins on Sunday and ends on Thursday. For the secondary section the day starts at 7:45 a.m. and finishes at 3:00 p.m. The primary section atarts at 7:45 a.m. and finishes at 1:45p.m. The main holidays are similar to those in the UK, except the spring holiday which tends to be shorter and the summer holiday longer.
