The Dubai English Speaking School is a non for profit school founded in 1963 and is administered under the terms of a charter granted by the Ruler of Dubai. The school is run by a Board of Governors.
The aim of the School is to provide a high quality education for expatriate children based upon the UK National Curriculum. British passport holders are given priority in admission procedures and 79% of the children are British with the rest of the children coming from thirty three other countries. Class size is 23, reducing in KS4 and KS5.
Fully qualified and experienced British staff ensures that children achieve their full potential. In-service training is regularly provided by recognised UK educational porfessionals, ensuring that the requirements and guidelines laid down in the English National Curriculum are implemented as appropriate to the school's needs. UK End of Key Stage Tests (SATs) are carried out in Year 2, 6 and 9. Year 6 and 9 papers are sent to the U.K. for external marking. Additionally, optional SAT’s papers are taken in Years 3,4,5,7 and 8.
Information and Communication Technology, Music, PE, (including Swimming), French and Arabic, are all considered an integral part of the School curriculum. There is also a wide range of extra curricular activities available. The Primary School has spacious newly purpose-built fully air-conditioned classrooms and facilities. The facilities include Music Rooms, Library and Resources Centre, Gymnasium, Hall, Science and Technology Room, ICT Suite, Art Room, Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts, Football/Cricket Pitch and Netball Courts.
In September 2006 the new Secondary school, DESC, for age group 11-18 opened at Academic City. The College has been built to provide an all through education for DESS children with ease of transition. KS3 children follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales, GCSE at KS4 and A Levels in Years 12 and 13.
The innovative design includes spacious new premises with all modern facilities, including an ICT pod in each block. There is a full sutie of Science laboratories, a Design Technology block and a purpose designed Sixth Form block. Sports facilities include a Sports Hall, Swimming Pool, outdoor all surface courts and playing fields. Creative, Performing and Expressive Arts have distinct areas and an external amphitheatre enables outdoor performances. We welcome visitors to our school and look forward to showing them our happy, tolerant and delightful children.

Dubai English Speaking College is a branch of DESS and in September 2006 moved to purpose built new secondary school site in Academic City, Dubai. The college provides places for DESS primary students who register by the end of January in Year 6 and also have a limited number of places for students transferring from other schools in Dubai and families who are new to the UAE. The new campus has the capacity for 850 students age 11 - 18 and has state of the art facilities for all specialist areas with a large sports hall, swimming pool and playing field. There is a major emphasis on Information Communications Technology and its use across the curriculum and excellent facilities for the Expressive and Performing Arts.
DESS College follows the English National Curriculum, GCSE at Key Stage Four and A-Level in Key Stage Five. All of our staff have recognized first and preferably a second degrees from established Universities and UK teacher training qualifications.
We continue the tradition established by the Primary school as one of the oldest schools in the region with high standards and providers of an excellent education.
