Comments / Description
The British International School, Cairo ("BISC") offers an education to children between the ages of 3 and 18 that is based on British curriculum and principles, leading to GCSE's and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
The School is a private, fee-financed, not for profit Society authorised by the Ministry of Social Affairs. It is situated in Zamalek, a residential area close to the centre of the city.
Since its foundation in 1976, BISC has earned an enviable reputation for excellence, with public examination results regularly placing it in the first division of the independant and selective UK schools' league tables. BISC students go on to top universities in the UK, Europe and the USA. A significant majority of the teaching staff are recruited from the UK, thus ensuring that the school keeps abreast of best educational practice. There are between 20 and 24 children in each of the Primary classes; in the Senior School the ratio of teachers to pupils is 1 to 9. Academic study is at the centre of what the school does, but emphasis is also placed on music, art, drama and sport, and there is a wide range of extra curricular activities on offer. The school is located in Beverly Hills to the west of Cairo and has a state of the art campus. BISC operates a bus service for pupils, serving much of Cairo and including Zamalek, Mohandessin, Maadi, Heliopolis, 6th October city and Giza.
The school operates a three term year beginning in September and finishing at the end of June, with holidays including Christian and Muslim festivals.
Entry to the school is by interview and testing suited to the child's age. All enquiries relating to admissions and all requests for information about the school should eb made to Mrs. Anne Williams, Admissions Secretary, on info@bisc.edu.eg or by logging onto the admissions page of the school website www.bisc.edu.eg

The Senior School has a teacher-pupil ratio of 1:9, a policy of limiting class sizes and an extensive tutor support system with a teaching staff consisting of well-qualified UK university graduates. The student body has a good British representation and encompasses a over 40 nationalities.

BISC is a well-equipped school with ‘state of the art’ science laboratories, computer centres, libraries, air-conditioned classrooms and access to an all-weather athletic track, tennis courts, swimming pools, football pitches and a double size gymnasium.

The extra-curricular activities we offer are part of this all-round development and include sport and culture, as well as the Model United Nations, Student Council activities, musicals, plays, choirs and instrumental ensembles.

Application procedures will be initiated by an interview with the Principal and placement is subject to an assessment of suitability, together with the availability of places.
