The Sultan’s School is a selective school of approx 1,000 students. 93% of the students are Omani nationals; 43% are female; almost all students go on to Higher Education, mostly University. There are five sections: Kindergarten 1 & 2, Lower Elementary grades 1-3, Upper Elementary grades 4-6, Preparatory grades 7-8 and Secondary grades 9-12. The courses of study are continuous throughout the twelve years of schooling. A two-semester 36-week year runs from the beginning of September until mid-June with a mid-year break in late January.
The programme is bilingual: Arabic Language and Literature, Islamic Education and Social Studies are taught in Arabic; English Language & Literature, Mathematics, and Science are taught in English. In the last four grades (9-12) of the school, IGCSE and the IB Diploma are offered to all students. In addition, the school operates an A level programme offering Maths, Physics and Chemistry to
students aged 17 + sponsored by Petroleum Development Oman.
Virtually all students proceed to Higher Education, with the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the USA the favoured destinations. Others study at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat.
All staff are fully qualified and teacher-trained. The staff are either English-speaking ex-patriates from UK, New Zealand, Canada, USA etc. or Arabic-speaking ex-patriates from Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria etc. Most staff are overseas-hired and consequently stay on campus.
The facilities are first rate with a large 250,000 sq. metre campus. There are seven well-equipped science labs, four ICT labs, two libraries, large Games Hall, Auditorium, grass playing fields and running track plus swimming pool. Recent additions include a custom-built Kindergarten facility and a new Administration Block.
