MES, Cairo is an international co-educational day school fostering an international outlook for children of all nationalities. MES, Cairo is proud to be recognised as the only school in Egypt to have received the prestigious Cambridge Beacon School Award in all five years it has been presented. We are one of only nine schools, worldwide, to be awarded status as a Cambridge International Fellowship Centre in recognition of our ongoing programme of quality assurance by the Cambridge International Examinations board. MES, Cairo is also the first school in the world to achieve recognition by CITA as a "model accredited school."
Modern English School, Cairo is fully accredited by both MSA and CITA as well as being fully accredited as an International School by the Ministry of Education in Egypt. Memberships include BSME, ECIS, ISS, NESA, AAIE.
The Nursery focuses on Early Years Goals leading to the Primary Department where a full academic programme based on the English National Curriculum is followed, with slight alterations to ensure that the work is relevant and more suited to the international setting. Arabic and Religious Studies are also taught at two levels to meet the needs of individual pupils.
The school is located on an impressive 33,500m2 landscaped campus in New Cairo with a Primary department which has been designed to retain a 'family' atmosphere and to include large primary classrooms with added creative areas, networked computer suites, science laboratories, home making rooms, music suite with rehearsal facilities, and libraries. A 400-seat Theatre and 3 multi-purpose halls complement the extensive Secondary faculty suites, large interrelated art studios, music suite with individual rehearsal suites, I.C.T. networked suite, six science laboratories, two drama studios and a dedicated sixth form common room. The sports complex contains volleyball and basketball courts, two swimming pools, full-size varsity football pitch, athletics track, and gymnasium, and dance studio.
Secondary school students may choose to follow a British Section curriculum leading to IGCSE (Cambridge) A/S and A levels where the results are significantly better than the UK average. Alternatively, an American High School program is offered with AP and Honors courses, resulting in an American High School Diploma. Students from both the British & American sections may choose to study the IB Diploma Programme. The British trained and qualified and American certified staff are recruited on overseas contracts and are supported by specially qualified English language teachers. A learning development support programme is strongly in place. Specialist P.E, I.C.T., French and Music teachers coach throughout the full age range. Students participate in ISAC (International Schools Activities Conferences). The academic programme is complemented by a full recreational programme with a strong expressive and performing arts element. These and other extra-curricular activities play a significant part in the life of the school and change seasonally. Parent/teacher information evenings are held regularly and educational visits locally and abroad help enrich the curriculum.
