Deira International School broadly follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales enhanced by the best features of international education particularly the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Organisation.
Deira International School, an 80,000 sq. m. facility, located in Dubai Festival City, opened in September 2005. The campus is a uniquely designed, purpose-built school with excellent facilities. Within the school there are libraries, art rooms, vocal and instrumental music rooms, computer and science laboratories, design technology rooms, business studies centre, indoor gymnasium, swimming pool and a large sports field.
Children of all nationalities and cultural backgrounds are accepted upon successful completion of the entrance test and interview. The school accepts students aged from 3 to 18 (FS – Year 13). There are no examinations in the primary years. Secondary students are prepared for Cambridge IGCSE followed by the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) or Career- Related Certificate Programme (IBCC).
Students are in co-educational classes and are taught by experienced teachers primarily from the UK. Throughout the school emphasis is placed on communication skills, developing confidence and life-long learning. The curriculum is enriched with specialist teaching in design technology, art, sport, ICT, sciences, languages, business studies, economics, etc. All students learn Arabic and are also expected to participate in sport, community service and field trips. Muslim students follow courses in Islamic Studies and Arabic as required by the Ministry of Education. Specialised support is provided to students for whom English is a second language, students who excel and those with mild learning difficulties.
DIS offers an extensive range of extra-curricular activities such as football, basketball, rugby, cricket, tennis, netball, swimming, golf, drumming, dance, ballet, karate, chess, photography, philosophy, MUN, etc. A vocal and instrumental programme offers a broad range of musical studies. Outdoor Education is a significant part of the learning ethos at the school. Students are provided many opportunities to participate on camps and various expeditions abroad. Deira International School is at the centre of a community providing our families with numerous educational, cultural and social events. National and International Days are held to celebrate the cultures of the 75+ nationalities represented at the school. Parents are encouraged to take an active part in school life.
