BSME TeacherCon DOHA25 | Event Recap

This year marked an exciting milestone for the BSME TeacherCon family with the launch of BSME TeacherCon DOHA25, hosted at Qatar International School. The event brought together educators from across the region for a day of engaging workshops, dynamic discussions, and meaningful connections with the BSME Partner Community; all within a collaborative, energising professional learning environment.

The conference opened with a powerful keynote from Chris Perry (Park House English School, Qatar), who explored the latest research into the adolescent brain. His session examined common behavioural patterns in developing minds and the strategies educators can adopt to create positive, psychologically safe learning environments. Chris also offered a thought-provoking perspective on how childhood experiences and social media shape cognitive and emotional development, reinforcing the crucial influence teachers have on students during this formative stage.

Throughout the day, delegates participated in a diverse programme of workshops designed to challenge thinking and inspire creativity. Attendees were encouraged to step beyond the conventional and explore new ideas across a wide range of topics: from Minecraft in Education to Inclusive Leadership, Oracy, and even “Pastoral Sandwiches”. The variety reflected the passion and innovation within the BSME teaching community.

The day concluded with a compelling panel discussion on “Fostering Cultural Identity and Belonging in Schools", featuring insights from:

  • Keisha John, Crossing Cultures
  • Iain Driscoll, King’s College Doha
  • Joy Bromfield, Nord Anglia International School Al Khor
  • Jo Hayward, Durham School for Girls Doha

The panellists explored the importance of cultural belonging and identity within international schools, aligning their discussion with Qatar’s National Vision 2030. Their conversation underscored how belonging influences wellbeing, motivation, and achievement, offering practical strategies for nurturing inclusive school communities.
