The BSME Beacon Awards

The BSME Community strives for excellence through a forward-thinking culture of collaboration, communication and innovation and is underpinned by key values of integrity, respect, inclusion and a drive towards sustainability.

The BSME Beacon Awards have been created, in that same spirit, to recognise students who are living BSME's key values every day, as beacons in their own communities.

The Awards

BSME Beacon Award for Collaboration

In the spirit of BSME's culture of collegiality and collaboration, this award recognises students who consistently work with others to achieve shared goals, within their class, their school community or beyond. The recipients will have demonstrated a genuine commitment to teamwork, peer support and the collective pursuit of community, reflecting BSME's belief that we are stronger and better together.

BSME Beacon Award for Inclusion

Aligned with BSME's core values of respect, inclusion and sustainability, this award celebrates students who have made a meaningful and active contribution to fostering a sense of belonging within their school community. This may be through championing the needs of others, breaking down barriers, promoting diversity, or consistently ensuring that every member of the school community feels valued, respected and included — embodying BSME's vision of helping students towards purposeful, fulfilling lives.

BSME Beacon Award for Innovation

Reflecting BSME’s forward-thinking culture and commitment to excellence, this award honours students who apply innovation, creative thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit to problem-solving. The recipients will have looked beyond the classroom to tackle real-world challenges with intellectual curiosity and imagination. By developing solutions that drive progress and promote a sustainable, positive future, these students demonstrate the power of innovation to inspire change and improve the lives of others.

Nominations

Each year, BSME member schools will be invited to nominate one student for each of the three award categories at primary level and one each at secondary level. The Junior Beacon Awards are aimed at students in Years 5 and 6 and the Senior Beacon Awards for students in Years 11–13, recognising students at these significant points in their school journey.

The deadline for submissions has been extended to Wednesday, 17th June 2026. Schools are asked to submit nominations by providing a brief written recommendation statement, of no more than 200 words, for each nominee, explaining how the student meets the criteria for their respective award.

Once nominations have been received, BSME will issue a personalised digital certificate for each nominated student, which schools are warmly encouraged to print and present at their own award ceremony, graduation, prize-giving, assembly or other suitable occasion.

If you would be interested in submitting a nomination, please contact office@bsme.org.uk.

We hope the Beacon Awards will become a cherished part of the annual calendar for schools and students across the region, and we look forward to celebrating the remarkable young people in our community.
